I started off with a Professional blog because i wanted to tell people that "Yes, a girl from an orthodox family can very much be into media and still rock my personal life." It all started when I was in my 10th. My principal hated me and she never wanted me to take the first group for 11th and 12th. Oh yes, the group that people study to become great Engineers(sarcasm). I wanted to become a software engineer too. I planned my life in 10th.(probably when i should have just studied and flirted with boys around) i wanted to study engineering, earn more , get married and settle. That is what i had planned. But life took a twisty turn during my 10th and one of the principals of the schools asked me to take something lighter. Thanks to him! Here i am blogging about the most fun and rolarcoaster ride i have had and still experiencing.
I took up commerce with computer science, the so called "not so good studying group". I topped 3rd in class every time during my 11th and 12th. Passing out with a very average percentage of 83, I was done with 12th and a huge responsibility had just got over when came the twist. Some said B.Com, some said BA literature, some said BCA but i said shut the **** up. I will do what i will do! This is what i said to all of those losers who thought i d never make it big. I approached my dad, mom and listened to myself for once. I joined BSc Electronic Media in MOP vaishnav college for women, chennai. Not many people would take this course up because this course had a lot of creativity involved, a lot of running, a lot of slogging our asses off and a lot of undos and redos. I spent the first year by doing many projects given by college people and I was one among them who was very disciplined and one who participated in all the cultural activities. Life was getting mundane by doing the same thing again and again. I wrote, drew, made houses with sticks, I edited people's faces on photoshop and i drew for no reason. All of this looked and sounded stupid to me. no break! no life! nothing interesting. My dad would have beaten me up with stick if i had said thsi to him in the first year! I shut my mouth and just did thing and hoped for something. Then came this project!
Style evolution - a video production group project where we had to sit and do an entire show! I took up fasion, style, modelling and boiled down to MAKE OVER! one amazing month of pre planning, production and post production! Yes, i topped the class with 96 marks for my performance and i am still prou of my very first short feature show!
Then came interest in short films and video production, I did about 5 short films and 2 shows. I interned with NDTV-HINDU! I had to accompanyw ith the glamourous ladies who'd often ask me to pick up their phones and dial to their bfs or ould ask me to inform the can driver to leave, or would ask me to carry their bags for them! They treated me like a slave! rather just one or two treated me like that! I dint give a damn coz my ultimate motive was to learn out of all this! I learnt. I got noticed in the office where people were happy to see my face. Not to forget! i also shot few scenes for feeding frenzy with the camera man's guidance!. All through this journey I had my wonderful parents, supportive boy friend who is now my husband! and my 2 amazing friends who made me realize what i was actually interested in. Anita and Anandi! I love you guys!
anyway after this was the third year. The final year of enjoyment and I thought probably I'd be done with media here. I wrote scripts, I did short films and many other shows and wrote thesis on a movie. The entire 3 years of EM was the best set of people.! one main thing about media I learnt was, everything that glitters is freaking not gold for us! We were thought to think differently, we were asked to look at things in a very broad and a crooked manner. we were asked to question everyone and we were asked basically experiment by talking like shit crazy! We did all this and yes here i am standing with not many achievements in hand but with a contented life where I can pat on myself and say "YES, pavithra you have chosen the right course for you". Presently interning with an ad agency, life is awesome to see all sects of media. I have worked for The new indian express, an ad agency and a Tv channel! All as interns.. But still I have enjoyed every bit of my work as an intern!
This is to all those parents who ask their children to choose the course that the children dont wanna study - stop pushing them.. stop thrusting it on the.. they will fall.. they will struggle. they will rise.. they will make a new path for them.. I am not getting preachy but really stop pushing your kids!
This is my first blog and I just wriote whatever came in my mind. Lots of informal language.. lots of spelling mistakes and lots of casual writing! But its my blog! So i am taking the liberty to write the way I want :)
Thanks Media!
You have made me an awesomely better person than most of them out there!
